I am going to be writing to the BBC wildlife magazine to inform them and their readers of the dangers of strimmers to Hedgehogs. My hopes are that they will publish it in their letter section along with a picture of a Hedgehog that has been a victim of a strimmer injury. This will hopefully be published within the next 2 months, when people will begin to start strimming again.
Most of us know that the BBC recently got it wrong on the news about Hedgehog weights, and we all helped out by sending them emails trying to correct them and point out their mistake. Lets hepe that they will improve by publishing an article of some sort about Hedgehogs and strimmers in their magazine.
Lots of people, including myself, buy the magazine every month, it is, I think, a national magazine that will be read by people all over europe, which is good news if the letter is published.

Has any one got any other ideas of who to write to? Like other wildlife magazines??

I will let you know when the letter is done and if it is successful.

good idea Beth

any gardening & wildlife magazine is ideal

However when writing to wildlife magazines, you are preaching to the converted. The majority of readers are already interested in wildlife &  take sensible precautions

We need to get the message across to the readers of  everyday magazines that includes both mens mags & womens mags

Last year I sent to all gardening magazines & I think I got 2 or 3  replies, but have no idea how many ( if any) printed  a warning

However when writing to wildlife magazines, you are preaching to the converted.

In many cases but not always, I think it is still worth doing. Watching that blonde woman on the 'Wild About Your Garden' programme again yesterday going on and on about how hedgehogs love to eat slugs made it very obvious that even the so-called experts don't know it all.
Also, I think wildlife magazines are often bought for children so it is good because (a) it will 'catch them young' and (b) they may educate/put pressure on their parents to do the right thing.

Good work Beth, as usual!
