Thanks Sonic, Fairy is so sweet and photo-able! I have been looking at the gorgeous guineas on the GuineaLynx Forum recently, what a lot of far too cute piggies! They would make a BIG book full!

Pat! Porridge  Shocked Shocked  Well, (she whispered) Mildred (my first guinea) used to have a toast crust for her breakfast every morning, she wheeked like mad if it wasn't served up immediately, she could smell it toasting, and I bet her expression was just like your Pepsies, all wide-eyed!! Oh yes, and Molly had a few strands of that bran cereal, I can't think what it is called as I haven't eaten that for years, is it Go Bran . . . All Bran maybe? Well, she loved a couple of bits! They both lived to be over 6 and were always healthy!

I have just been an hour feeding Fairy, all the regular line up but tonight she couldn't stop eating broccoli, sliced up 'julienne' fashion of course  Wink Hubby is away tonight and it took me all my time keeping up with her having to do it all on my own, slicing, posting, slicing etc! I must get some Swiss Chard, they like Chicory, none of them will go near peppers of any colour (and again, in the past most of them loved it, how odd). Spinach . . . well, it makes Marigold a little bloated, Fairy hasn't tried it yet but I bet she will love the stalk bit. I go to M&S too! Their salad leaves seem fresher - they love Rocket and Watercress, not Lambs Lettuce though! Fairy likes the carrot in those salad bags! And she loves tomatoes now but they have to be sliced into bite sized bits  Roll Eyes To top it all off they had a basket of fresh grass (god forbid it isn't the 'right' grass), hay of course (Timothy, meadow (the dust free sacks), and oat hay)! and their bowl of cereals.
Do you get asked daft questions at the supermarket? And when you are out grass collecting? I tell people I am making soup  Grin
It is a bit like when I buy HHog chicken in the supermarket, I hate buying it and can't even eat chicken now, in the early days I said, 'oh it is for the hedgehogs', but that started a big conversation off, so now I say, 'oh I will put this in a different bag - it is for my neighbour'!!!! They must think my neighbour eats a lot of chicken legs  Cheesy
Just thinking about Parsley, Pat, mine don't like it fresh - either the bagged sort of the plant pot - I have to plant it in the veg bed and then wait a couple of weeks before it is considered suitable, maybe it comes with loads of chemicals and the piggies can smell/taste them - ugh.
Do yours like corn on the cobs, and the husks?

And finally, their very favourite, best ever food? Bamboo leaves  Smiley
I have never known a guinea not like them!

A close up  . . .

She can nod off anywhere!

Mildred,
I know what you mean when you say 'posting' while you're feeding Fairy ! Cheesy
How lucky to have that little girl fall asleep on you like that.
I can remember that it was quite a while before we saw ours asleep for the first time.
It was as though they were always on predator guard Cheesy, then one day when they were obviously more relaxed  we saw our first squeezed shut eyes Smiley Awww!!!
Their most tired time is when they come in from outside. They must be extra alert outside and so when they come in and go to bed they conk out in record time.
Ours do have the odd wholemeal bread crust and absolutely love it. Not tried toast though.
I mostly buy organic veg so that's what they eat too Tongue
I'm not totally obsessed with organic everything but where I can buy it I will.
I've done it for 15 years and have told myself I can't stop now.
Occasionally I am overcome with guilt over the cost of it all and buy them a normal cucumber. Cheesy
Just a line on squirrels; I have been giving my squirrel pistachio nuts and she loves them!
I knew she'd like them as I read about them on your squirrel page link.(megga expensive Shocked)
She makes a terrible mess with them though.

Aw, thanks Pat!

Pat, isn't it something when you first see them snoozing? I am still in awe when any of ours are fast asleep, often on their sides with legs sticking out! And you are right about them being more tired when they have been out grazing, all that lawn mowing really takes it out of them Roll Eyes
I didn't do much posting-of-food for Fairy yesterday as I awoke with a terrible migraine and was stuck in bed . . . the first thing that hubby said to me when he came home was, 'has Fairy been fed'! He knew they would have plenty of supplies but he was worried she hadn't had her hand feeding session - he dashed out to see to her while I had to wait  Cheesy
I buy some organic, but not cucumbers as they just seem so dear, we get through one a day! And today I nipped out for Swiss Chard, they didn't have it in Morrisons and I didn't have the energy to drive across town to tesco, we will get some when we go tomorrow. I got some spinach to see what Fairy thought . . . she loved the stalks but not the leafy bit!

Haha the squirrels DO make a mess with pistachio nuts! We only have 2 visiting now, we get the mixed nuts from tesco (they seem to have a good selection compared to Morrisons with peanuts, and Sainsburys with loads of walnuts). They like Hazel nuts best, then Brazils! It is so rewarding when you see their happy/smiley faces  Smiley

I took this the week before last, Fairy looked so happy with life!

And this isn't brilliant, it is hard to capture the moment they take the nut! I think this was taken last year as the 2 current visitors just won't quite take a nut from our hand.

Fairy had her teeth trimmed on Sunday, one of her incisors protrudes forwards and misses the lower set, so it doesn't get worn down at all.

Enjoying a tomato!

Asleep with her Daddy!

And before her trim:

Oh and here they are having a ride in the cart near Big Mavis!

Fairy was 6 moths old last week! And she had her very own Fairy Cake!

She continues to thrive and has now reached 640g. Her teeth have to be trimmed every couple of weeks. She has a new step sister, Mariella. Four guineas keep me very busy and so far this winter we do not have any hedgehogs in to care for, a bit different to last winter when we had 16. I don't post very often but I enjoy reading everyone's threads - what a great job you are all doing for our 'prickly friends'!

Mildred,
So pleased that Fairy is still doing well! Kiss-I Love her cake!
Thank goodness that you're her Mum Wink
And...you are making me very jealous that you have another baby guinea Roll Eyes
Mariella is just gorgeous! Kiss
Our 2, Poppy and Baby, are just as spoilt as ever and are all cozy in their little houses on vet bed Roll Eyes after having been out for a 3 hour run on the bathroom floor.
Now when I say 'for a run', I use the term very loosely as they are a lazy pair and opt for even more snoozing during that 3 hours!
I have 7 hogs at the moment. 2 should be gone by now but it's too cold outside to be released so they are in my garage but still eating every night.
The other 5 are in my daughter's bedroom, she's due back home on the 21st for Christmas so I'll have to move them to the garage by then too Undecided. They are all over 650g so they should be ok out there and I'll put the heater on to make the transition easier.
My last outside hog, Bella, began hibernating 3 nights ago, she was one of my overwintered last year and I think she's the mum of the 5 siblings upstairs in Natalie's room Wink

Fairy has a magazine out! Hello! Piggy is online now and ready to download either via  Fairy's webpage, (the links to all her stories and videos, as well as the magazine are top right of her page) or go  direct to the PDF file.
Please note, it is quite a big file and will take a minute or two to download.

She is a very fit and happy little girl these days! Her teeth, that were such a problem in the early days, are not growing forward quite so much so she isn't having to have them trimmed quite as often.

Here she is enjoying a few minutes of spring sunshine!

And eating her way through her hay!

Aw thank you so much! I passed on your Birthday wishes to Fairy Smiley

I kept meaning to post her Birthday photos . . . where does the time go? I can't believe Fairy is 1, this year has flown. She had a really lovely day, lots of cards and gifts and, of course, plenty of salad!

Here she is with her card from Daddy-Ernie!

And a big basket of salad from her friends, Minty and Monty Mouse!

The best sort of salad - eat it AND wear it!

A smashing new cuddle cup . . .

A party with carrot cake for her friends!

And a present to unwrap . . .

Very cosy!

I did a whole lot of photos on her Blog:http://www.fairymagic.me/. Her Birthday is a few posts down the page now Smiley

Happy Birthday to piggies and hedgehogs everywhere, and thanks again for your comments!

Your guinea pigs must be the most spoiled and loved in the world.Wonderful photos.

Why isn't everyone as kind to their pets.? It breaks my heart. You could teach them such a lot Mildred.

They deserve it, Marg! I could cry (and indeed DO cry) when I hear some of the awful conditions guineas are kept it - and other pets . . . some people . . . well, they certainly don't deserve to keep any animal . . . I could rant for hours!

Here's Mariella and Marigold in the late evening sun last night:

I know what you mean Mildred,i am just the same.About all animals.

I cannot get my head around why people get animals then neglect and mistreat them.I have 2 large fish ponds, they are my hobby and my pride and joy.I spend hours on them making sure the plants and water are just right so the fish are  living in the best possible conditions.I get very upset when i see fish neglected, trapped in tiny bowls in dirty water. And though many might think, hey it's only a fish,I know how they SHOULD be kept and it is the same with you who has a special love of guinea pigs.

At least we can sleep at night knowing we are doing the right thing.Though it doesn't stop us worrying about those less fortunate.I really don't know what the answer is.
