I use an 18g most often but have used 21g or 23g on very tiny 1 or 2 day old hoglets

What size needle would you recomended Derek? My vet gives them when he gives the meds, but I'm not sure on the exact size - I currently am using green, don't what it is in g though.  I always tell myself to ask, but then once at the dispensary it goes out my head! Roll Eyes

it depends on the drugs being injected

for baytril, I use 25 brown
for synulox or other penicillin type drugs  which are thicker, I use 23 or 21   blue or green

for fluids normally green 21
I try to use  1/2" or 5/8" normally but  1" when I have to

brown are 25 gauge
blue are 32 gauge
Green are 21 gauge

With needles the larger the number the finer(thinner) it is

I always use the smallest size( thinnest)  needle that is practical to avoid pain
and a thinner needle tends to get through a tough skin easier but You can manage with only using green needles if you aren't giving many injections

for fluids green is definitely better as it allows a quicker flow of the larger amount of fluid

Thanks for that Derek. Makes sense.  I am one of those annoying people who want to know the reason behind everything!!!   Grin

Just spoken to somebody who has bought entirely the wrong cannula. You don't want to get the body piercing type which has a needle tube on the end, you need the intravenous cannula which has a flexible soft tube as per this one
