Hi Derek,

How about an A4 sized one that we can print and pin up at the local garden centers. Both my local ones have notice boards and i'd be up for bugging them to display something. Perhaps an A4 one as well as a half A4 size, what ever they call that.

Ok, i've just found the other image on the strimmer page to print out. I'm wondering if we could get some cards printed, about 5 or 6 inches high of the image http://thehedgehog.co.uk/images/strimmer_poster_small.jpg with some information on the back about declining numbers of hedgehogs and the website address? This could be something we could bug the garden centres to leave a small pile of them on their counters during the spring garden centre rush? Or failing that just very handy to pin up on their boards.

I'll have a think and maybe discuss it with you. I'm not sure how much printing costs would be but a card would be so much better than a flappy bit of paper.

Regards,
Garry

I am looking into printing costs and talking to a designer & printer tomorrow evening to get some costs & other suggestions for stickers/posters/cards etc

The one I am seeing lives near me & is an animal lover & willing to help

I am sure Andrew will come up with other ideas & designs as well

I think that's a good image, not so gory and more likely to be accepted in a place visited by the general public

In my garden centre yesterday I noticed a series of large posters by Wyevale, approx 2x3ft, one of which had a cute picture of a curled up hedgehog, with a slogan "We've put patio heaters to bed, so he can sleep through the winter"

perhaps Wyevale may be receptive to expand on that with regards to the Strimmer campaign ?

Great picture and a good idea about Wyevale.  I suppose if most of the manufacturers are not going to include warnings then the next best thing is the places that sell them and posters like that will definitely have impact.

I've just been speaking to the vet about strimmers and he said some university has been looking at how hedgehogs have adapted to cars, etc., and said that there is evidence to suggest that hedgehogs are running away more now instead of curling up.  I suppose it makes sense, those with the curling up gene get run over and those that have the 'run for it' gene live to pass it on.  Would be interesting to read about it so will google it later to see.
